Chiefgeng's 'Account' Doesn't Waste Any Time
Not a single measure is wasted on Chiefgeng’s recently released 3-song EP, Account. The projects dance-inducing titular track sets the tone as the duo effortlessly flow over bouncy production underpinned by lilting latin-influenced guitar licks. Singer Dematria’s soft vocals perfectly match Mwololo and Adongo Ouma’s playful cadence and delivery providing for a smooth listen.
The EP ’s following track Fufuka, is characterized by bass-driven, pounding beats sprinkled with high-end synthetic elements. This minimal choice in production offers plenty of room for the duo to show off their witty lyricism as well as ability to craft catchy hooks and beats marking this as a club-ready song.
Chiefgeng display their artistic versatility on the EP’s closing track Iwake, which features rising Nairobi-based rapper Sabi Wu. The three artists craft a slow-tempo, afro-swing tinged love song, whilst still staying true to Chiefgeng’s penchant for bounce, that is perfect for your valentine’s day playlist.
