A Moment with Luchi Star

The Luchi Star is a new name to Kenyan music but he doesn’t let this dictate his success rate. Having already released a remix from veterans such as Mejja and current hitmakers like Maandy, he is ready for a takeover. His long-term goal is simple: to reach levels no Kenyan artist has reached before.

His mysterious appearance immediately raises an eyebrow as his black full-face mask and heavy, raspy vocals get you to listen to him. His aesthetic videos give the viewers eyegasms as he gets you up on your feet to move to his lucrative songs. Debuting with "Rivas" a dance anthem thanks to Tiktok, Luchi is a rather energetic fun-loving man. Stating music has always been his passion since childhood, the lockdown prompted him to act on his love and start making music. Doubling up as a producer, he made "Rivas", which was his first beat, after taking YouTube Tutorials for 2 weeks and the rest is history. With about 20 million streams on Tiktok alone, I wanted to find the secret behind this underdog that is yet to rise. To him, it is still a dream. He can't believe how he garnered this many views with only one song to his name back then.

We knew the song was dope, but not to the level we saw

Having musical influences from Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Nyashinski, Diamond Platnumz, and Freddy Mercury, his, vision is to shine like them. Closely working with his team, Luchi is about to take the scene from 0-100 and we have seen a trailer of what is to come. Two months ago he dropped "Run' another dance anthem making me wonder is making anthems his forte? "We are in an era where dance is big and I do not know anyone who doesn't love to dance'" Luchi says. Aiming to not only give his fans music with a bounce but with a bounce that has an easy signature dance to go with it as he has a soft spot for both dance and dancers.

I don’t intend to have all my songs about dance but I’ll always make sure it’s music that people can dance to.

Carefully scrutinizing his videos they are aesthetic with vibrant colors and motion. The clear HD quality combined with the choreography sends some energy waves through your body. Putting his love for film to the test in his videos he has put out two unique videos that are both outstanding and unique. A lover of cinematography, Luchi explains to me how short films and BTS of first-class music videos have always ignited his curiosity. He describes his writing process as rather simple. He has already studied his target market, " Kenyans love to dance and with a catchy beat, relatable lyrics, and accent you can get their attention," knowing these three things has enabled him to make a takeover strategy. Just two months after releasing his second single "Run" it has managed to get over 90,000views on YouTube

The support is there but I think it can be better and this isn’t just for TheLuchi but all these dope Kenyan artists.

With an 8-5 job, each creative moment is precious to Luchi. Promising to serve more bangers, I ask Luchi about receiving media support from mainstream media as a new artist. As much as the support is there it could be better Luchi continues to tell me with the foreign music still dominating our airwaves it is hard to receive support. A firm believer of the saying "dance a yard before you dance abroad” he hopes the future favors Kenyan content when it comes to mainstream media.
