Nigerian born, Nairobi raised artist D’iyi’s latest release, ‘Na Wah’, speaks to the uncertainties of life and shows us that it’s okay to embrace them. ‘Nah wah’, which is a Nigerian pidgin expression used when someone or confused or surprised, aptly captures the mood of this song. According to D’iyi, ‘Nah Wah’ represents, “the 'halfway' moments of life when things are too chaotic to understand.”

‘Nah Wah’ opens with a bouncy, upbeat guitar loop as D’iyi raps, “Sun no make sense when you’re inside”, a sentiment we can all literally relate to during this time of quarantine. Metaphorically, this speaks to those moments when you become so overwhelmed by life that it becomes impossible to see the bright side. The hook is breezy; D’iyi repeats the tracks title as his vocals are carried by the tracks recurrent guitar loop pattern, whistling, finger snaps, and shakers.

All of the songs instrumental elements are reminiscent of summer which juxtaposes message being told by lyrics. ‘Na Wah’ feels like that moment when you find calm in the eye of a storm; when you choose to shrug your shoulders at your worries and instead live in that moment, dance, be happy and forget your troubles even for just a moment.
