Stepping into this year, we all were full of hopes and aspirations, but it’s with more of a breath of relief that we now accept the fact that the first half of the year 2020 is finally gone after so much drama and unwarranted circumstances. In the midst of the madness, chaos and unexpectedness of all the situations that have sprung this year, we still had good times, and even, better music.
This article is a selection of our top ten East and West African projects from the first half of 2020.
Please note that the projects selected were released between January 1st to June 30th 2020, and they are arranged in no particular order.
VIVID EMOTIONS by Naya Akanji & Lemar Abdul
In what happens to be a debut project for both the talented singer, Naya Akanji, and producer Lemar Abdul, Vivid Emotions, as the name suggest is a project that with preternatural melodies and Naya’s silky vocals, opens up the listener’s eyes (ears actually) to vividly experience - through very expressive lyricism – the vulnerability, resistance, subtlety and other wide range of emotions in the story each song tells.

CULT! by Paybac Iboro
When Paybac Iboro announced Cult! Sometime last year, expectations for the project were on an uncontainable high – however he kept changing the release date to the disappointment of his fans. However when Cult! eventually released, everyone who listened would agree to the basic truth that it was worth the wait.
Once again in Cult! Paybac experiments with different sounds, different flows, different stories and scenarios, and of course different (of the best) features.
