Get Into Edu The Rapper’s 'Rap Lyf'
Edu The Rapper’s Rap Lyf EP serves as a narrative testament to his dedication to his craft: “This is the life God purposed for me and the life I love and I will do anything for this Rap Lyf.”
The project is a quick and enjoyable listen; over the course of 4 songs Edu lets us into his world, reflecting on and celebrating his journey through this rap life so far. On the projects titular track, Rap Lyf, Edu reiterates his passion and dedication to the grind and hustle of pursuing a rap career: ‘I’d do anything for this rap lyf’. He likens himself to famed Kenyan revision book author, Malkiat Singh on the following track as he waxes poetic about a special someone. On the EP’s third offering, Edu braggadociously stakes his claim as being a kingpin in this game whilst taking stock of how far he’s come. The EP closes out with “Without You”, a touching song about life being nothing without God. He enlists vocalist Nimoh whose vocals add a soft touch to the EP. However, her vocals could have been mixed slightly better to blend into the track.
Sonically, the EP oozes feel-good, dancey vibes as producer K Da Great’s choice in bouncy production compliments Edu’s upbeat cadence. Edu’s potential as a wordsmith shines through this project as each track is sprinkled with his witty wordplay. Overall, Edu’s Rap Lyf is a solid project and I’m curious to hear what more he has to offer.
