Why we’re down for IDMAN’s new music video

Rising Somali-Canadian artist IDMAN isn’t interested in comfortability. Due to her multicultural and genre-defying roots, conformity would technically be impossible. “Down for it” was initially recorded under her own independent label and creative collective Golly Geng. With the video’s release, IDMAN announced her new record deal with Arista Records in partnership with Golly Geng.

According to IDMAN, straying away from the road’s society has paved for us can be a good thing. When asked about the single, IDMAN stated, “We can see through the things we want for ourselves. And we don’t have to move through those things alone. Misery need not meet us at the end of every day. We are worthy and deserving of happy endings. Those happy endings that bring all that we imagined colorfully, lend to our belief and hope in that which we have not yet imagined. Take the risk. What’s it worth to you?”

Behind every great artist, is a constellation of creative thinkers ensuring their artistry burns bright. With this video, IDMAN pays homage to her collective Golly Geng, an independent label and multi-media group fueled by friendship and aligned in pursuit of otherworldly artful experiences. At the onset of the video, IDMAN is firmly planted within her purpose as her team surrounds her to achieve the visual symbolism of anchoring her success. With the backdrop of the beach behind them, IDMAN let’s go of all her self-doubt and anxiety along with the ocean waves.

Directed by Sabaah Folayan and produced by Ade Macalinao and Anastasia Solovieva in collaboration with Golly Geng, this video serves as a visual signifier of what to expect from IDMAN’s emerging metaverse. “Down For It” is the official first single from her forthcoming debut EP entitled “Risk” set to be released this fall via Arista Records. In the meantime, as we await this highly anticipated project, IDMAN tells us that “If you know a fuck nigga” that ever doubted you, “play this [song] loud as hell”.
