Producer Sichangi is back with his first single of the year off of his upcoming sophomore album, 'Soundtrack to a Heartbreak'. He teams up with two of Kenya’s most exciting acts - fast-rising R&B star Xenia Manasseh and Steph Kapela - on ‘Switch’.

Sichangi has masterfully crafted the track allowing ample room for both artists, and as a pleasant surprise, Xenia turns rapper matching Steph bar for bar. 2019 was Xenia’s break out year while Steph took the year off to work on his craft. The meeting of these two energies on ‘Switch’ has resulted in a song that drips in confidence as the pulsating, bass-heavy and percussive low end perfectly compliments Xenia and Steph’s tenacious bars.

Xenia and Steph take us through the internal battles they’ve fought to get to this point in their careers, fittingly articulating what it feels like to almost give up. Xenia opens with, “Used to stare out the window/Watching all of the days go/Thinking I’d never make it”. These lyrics hit home because we can all relate to a time when our dreams seemed impossible to achieve, a phase when none of our efforts seemed to be working. And so we lost hope. However, Steph reminds us that we have to stay hungry and never quit: “It don’t matter when I fall/ Stand tall on my ten toes and I want it all like ten fold”. Resolution is found, “I’ve switched major positions/ I’m making major decisions/ Nothing in the way of my vision”, prompting us to keep pushing.

This song is a reminder that you are that b*tch - that you’re capable of making the switch and finding your inner greatness.Stream ‘Switch’ here.
