BE-U | Mario Bol

BE-U | Qs&As with East Africa’s bright, bold and beautiful.

Mario Bol is a fashion model, an artist and founder of a clothing brand. This multifaceted individual is yet another example of the beauty that erupts, when one is purely and freely themselves. Oh what a beauty to be you!

WHERE DID YOUR MODELING JOURNEY BEGIN?

2018, around May/June, that when I decided to become a professional model.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE FASHION BRAND?

Louis Vuitton , especially right now with Virgil at the helm. I love how he brings creativity in the most simplistic way. So with that being said, LV and Off-White.

IF NOT EAST AFRICAN, WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE AFRICAN FASHION BRAND?

I.N Official, I walked for his showcase in 2018. I love Orange Culture as well, another Nigerian based brand. From Uganda, I love Euguana Kampala.

WHAT’S THE LAST LOCAL BRAND YOU ROCKED?

I.N Official

HOW DO YOU REPRESENT YOUR HERITAGE IN YOUR WORK?

My second name, Bol, which is my father's name. I wish for it to reach as far as it can, in Africa and across the world. That's my main focus and that’s how I want to represent it in my work.

RUNWAY OR SHOOTS? AND WHY?

Runway, RUNWAY! Of course. It’s just the feeling, the vibe and an amazing feeling when you showcase, hitting your walk all the confidence and all the love you get from the audience. I love runways!!

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM RUNWAY TO WALK?

Louis Vuitton, it's very classy, very organic and simple as well.

BEYOND MODELING YOU MAKE MUSIC, WHERE DID YOUR JOURNEY BEGIN?

2015, when I decided to become an artist. I decided to start writing music. Penning down the ideas, I felt like music was my thing. As far as that goes, 2016 was when I first went to the studio, and since then it has been a part of my life.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE UGANDAN ARTISTS? TOP 3?

Radio (RIP) & Ykee Benda.

WHERE DO YOU HOPE YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY TAKES YOU?

I hope it takes me somewhere better, but honestly I do not focus on that, I just want to perfect it as much as I can for now. Only God knows where it takes me, I just hope I will be ready.

YOU SEEM TO BE A DYNAMIC CREATIVE INDIVIDUAL.YOU HAVE A CLOTHING BRAND, KINDLY INTRODUCE THAT?

Creativity plays a big part of my life. You probably wouldn’t know me, if it weren't for creativity. I launched a clothing brand in June 2020. I just decided to go for it. I love clothes and love to wear something I admire. I would love for people to join me in that journey, I just went for it.

WOULD YOU EVER WALK YOUR OWN BRAND?

Of course, I would love to walk my own brand. And if I am to do that, I will be sure to be the last person to walk.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 2025?

Wealthier, happier and healthier. That's what I always tell people, it's only God that knows but I remain focused. One thing I assure you is I will be in a better place.

IF YOU HAD A SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

I would want to be able to heal. For example the pandemic stopped everything, I would want to heal that and save the world.

WHERE DO YOU SEE EAST AFRICAN FASHION IN 2025?

It’s really growing right now, people are accepting the art. I see it in a good place, more shows, more designers. I know it will be much better than right now.

WHERE DID YOU QUARANTINE?

Home. I didn't go anywhere. I stay home, work and advise everyone to do the same. Unless it's important.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR ANY ASPIRING CREATIVES?

Never stop, with anything you want to do, go for it. Do not put excuses, just go for it and never stop. Do it with love and passion and don’t let anybody tell you you cannot do it. The world is unlimited, we are unlimited, we can do what we want to do. Want it as much as you want to breathe.

WHAT’S THE LAST GREAT QUOTE YOU READ?

“You become what you think about most”, that is the last quote I really remember. A great book is The Secret Law of Attraction.
