Zacky Dau is a South Sudanese model, residing in Uganda. he is currently signed to Joram Model Management (JMM), and aspires to redefine male modeling within the region of East Africa. A young, energized individual, Zack remains himself through it all, by being himself, he embodies beauty.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?
My favorite color is black and white, these are simple colors and it makes me look natural.
WHAT’S YOUR TRIBE?
I’m a Dinka from South Sudan
HOW DO YOU REPRESENT YOUR TRIBE IN YOUR MODELING?
In Dinka culture, when a relative or family member dies, all the family members chop hair to mourn the deceased. I mean l had very long hair that I never wished to cut and when my grandpa died in June 2020 l had to cut it and changed looks and my new look is stunning in the industry now!
WHEN DID YOU START MODELING?
I started modeling in December 2018 after my form 4 exams. I had to move from my hometown Arua District to the capital, Kampala and did first castings for Steve K fashion gala and PAFAS18 and walked the runway for the very first time as a freelancer. I then got signed to JMM in January 2019.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT JMM?
I have been in the beautiful family of JMM for one and half years now and still chasing the dreams with my mother agency JMM. It’s a blessing to have a caring mother agency like JMM.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE UGANDAN DESIGNER?
My favorite Ugandan designer is Eguana Kampala, they make beautiful African prints.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE FASHION BRAND?
My favorite fashion brand ever is Louis Vuitton, l love their outfits.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOUITE SPOT TO EAT IN KAMPALA?
Ahaha.... Arua Park, it’s where l find my local foods. I prefer local food to KFC and fast made foods in town.
WHAT IS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ?
The last book I read was AWAKEN THE GIANT WITHIN by Anthony Robbins.
IF AFRICA WAS A COUNTRY, WHAT WOULD IT’S CAPITAL BE?
KIGALI ,RWANDA. It’s the cleanest City in Africa you know.
WHAT DOES MODELING MEAN TO YOU?
Modeling is my passion, it’s something l love doing and it’s life changing l must say.
DO YOU PLAN ON EXPANDING INTO THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
Of course yes, I mean I’m into model scouting and am a creative director currently.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?
Modeling still....uhm am 19 now and l want to model till 25. I don’t know what modeling has for me but l pray for the best!.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE RUNWAY TO WALK?
OMG.....my favorite shoot was in this lockdown when Emmanuel Banji a photographer in Uganda contacted me from Maryland; [I was] in Arua district Uganda, we did a zoom shoot. Little did we know, the photos featured on VOGUE ITALIA and MOB JOURNAL Magazine...it was the best shoot ever as my village people were so excited to see me shooting at home.
My favorite runway was ASFAS19. It’s one of the biggest fashion shows in Africa, l walked for top African designer David Tlale from South Africa.
SHOOT OR RUNWAY?
Shoots definitely, runways are always hectic, tiresome - you have to go through castings which take very long time! It is always busy work. Shoots are simple, all you need is to be creative and give photographers what they want and they pay lots more than runways.

WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO WORK WITH IN UGANDA AND WHY?
Eguana Kampala gives models opportunities to choose what they feel comfortable with.
WHAT IS THE LAST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WERE GIVEN?
The last piece of advice l was given was by my mother, she said “always remember to pray for my child “ God is the protector and promise giver!
WHAT IS THE LAST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU GAVE?
My advice goes to the youth:
“Do not change for anything a lot of photographers out there will tell you to do something to make it in the industry blah blah......never do anything you're not comfortable with. Always be yourself and respect God’s timing!”
